The camera is also labeled Argoflex Seventy-five, and there is also an Australian model (so identified on lens ring, according to McKeown's Camera Price Guide). These cameras were made in the 1949-1958 period as a low end, economy TLR. They have plastic bodies (black). The lens is a fixed focus one (e.g., Lumar 75mm).

All of these features help identify this model as a low end twin lens reflex camera, mass-produced for a minimum price. Today, you can buy these cameras for about the price of a large Domino's Pizza (e.g., $10-15 US).

The camera takes 6x6cm images on 620 rollfilm. While 620 film may be obsolete, but you can respool 120 film onto a 620 spool. See Obsolete Film pages.

A later variant Argus 75 TLR continued this line from 1958 to 1964. Finally, a deluxe Argus Super Seventy-Five of 1954-8 vintage added a coated Lumar 65mm f/8 lens which had a focusing mount.

If you are looking for a moderate to high quality entry level twin lens reflex camera (costing around $100 US) to get into medium format photography or really try out twin lens reflex camera operation - well, this isn't the one I would recommend. See Rolleicords, Ricohflex, Minoltaflex, Yashicamat, and other TLRs on the TLR pages for better quality user cameras.

Still, these low end economy TLRs can make an inexpensive start to camera collecting, and still take images with a bit of effort. Just don't expect Hasselblad quality out of a camera that sells for the price of a pizza!

Hi my name is Adam. I recently graduated from Columbia with a degree in photography. Due to the simplicity of this camera or non accuracy I recommend the plus X 400 or Agpha's 120 400. it is a very forgiving film and is very cost effective as well as available every where. Remember you need to be a minimum of 7.5 feet away from your subject matter so, I keep a piece of string 7.5 feet long with this camera. It is a fun camera because it is so simple the results are fair but I only paid 10.00 for mine so what the heck.
