Twin Lens Reflex Cameras FAQ
This twin lens reflex camera uses 620 film, takes 6x6cm images, and is
made of plastic. The camera dates from the early 1950s. Due to the
plastic and low end optics, you can usually get this camera for under $25 US.
If you do buy this camera, be aware that 620 film is now obsolete and
getting harder to find (late 1999). See Al Thompson's
Article on Respooling 620 Film for tricks on using 120 rollfilm onto
620 spools to cut film costs.
While you can get a bit of the feel of twin lens camera use out of an
older plastic TLR like this, I don't recommend them as the results and
hassle factor of 620 film hardly justifies the effort IMHO. Instead, I
suggest you look at the TLR Pages for some better
examples. A good four element lens, a wide range shutter, and a solid
metal TLR camera can often be purchased for $25 US on up, and a high quality
Rolleicord will sometimes be found for $100 US and up. In my opinion,
these TLRs are much better startup cameras for beginners.
