The above table sorts the lenses first by camera type (35mm SLR..) and
lens name. The lower section repeats the lens listing, but shows them
sorted by focal length and aperture.
The Russian 35mm SLR and rangefinders have vastly different lens registration distances, but may use similar (Leica) screw thread lens mount threads. So the lenses may fit, but they won't work properly if they are on the wrong camera. The Leica (Fed..) and Contax (Kiev) lenses are not interchangeable; the Contax lenses use the Contax bayonet while the threaded lenses fit the standard thread lens mount only. The two mirror MTO lenses have fixed preset diaphragms (MTO 500mm, MTO 1000mm). The Nartsis has its own lenses which can't be used on the Leica, nor will they couple to Leica style rangefinders, even though the same 39mm thread mount is used. The basic observation is that the use of the same thread mount (Leica) opens up the opportunity for confusion and problems that you should be aware of!

ARSAT lenses are produced in Ukraine, on Arsenal plant in Kiev and
Progress plant in Nezhin. They make manual focus lenses for 35 mm
cameras (Nikon F mount and 42 mm screw mount), and for MF cameras as
well (Kiev 60/Pentacon Six/Kiev 88 mount). I use Arsat 20/2.8, 50/1.4
and 100/2.8 on my Nikon FE and quite happy with this set.
Arsat PC lens you are talking about is a 35mm/2.8 shift only (not tilt)
manual focus lens with a Nikon F mount. Here in Kiev you can buy it for
about $100-$110. As all other Arsat lenses, Arsat PC is all metal heavy
and solid thing. It has no jumping diaphragm and allows max. shift 11 mm
along the frame and 7 mm across. What else? 6 diaphragm blades, stepless
diaphragm change, 62 mm filter mount.
The bad thing about Arsat is its quality control. I recommend you to try
2 or 3 lenses to choose from, if it is possible, or buy a new lens with
guarantee - otherwise you can run into a true dog! Check justification
of the lens and the diaphragm blades - they could have a very strange
form!
PS. Actually I beleieve that Arsat lenses sold in US and Europe have
extra quality control, so you don't have to worry about it so much.

I just ran a test pitting the following lenses against each other at all
apertures on 'real world subjects' (ie some stuff in my back garden, using
Tri-X in Xtol 1:1). Not Erwin-quality testing, obviously, but...
LTM Russar 20/5.6 LTM Canon 28/2.8 M Summilux 35/1.4 Sigma FD 24/2.8 Canon FD 28/2.8 Canon FD 35/2
I used a tripod, but in other respects I wanted this to be like the way I
shoot day to day. The reason was that three of the lenses were new and I
wanted to check them out.
Easily the winners were the Canon and Leica 35s, though at f8 all of the
lenses with the possible exception of the Russar were very sharp (the
Russar doesn't do well at the edges, but then no big surprise there).
At f8 and 5.6 respectively I could not detect a difference between the
Canon and the Leica lenses, in sharpness at least. There is certainly a
difference in character, however, which I am at a loss to describe.
The old Canon 28 is surprisingly good, too.
What is absolutely clear from my testing is that the great limiting factor
in the sharpness of my pix is my technique. ALL of the lenses easily
outperform my ability hold the camera steady at speeds lower than 1/250.
I just bought a scanner. When the transparency hood arrives I'll post the
results to my up and coming website.

There will be more pages added in a day or so. Yeah, I know about
expensive books!! "Leica Copies" by HPR-- MAJOR OUCH$$ !! Well, it
certainly can be confusing! I'm sure having fun with my collection of
Russian jobbies though. The are really usable and will do a great job if
allowed.
Very good optics in general- and the 20mm Russar............!! I don't use
it often, but that's a rather spectacular lens. The part I like is that I
don't have to outwit a computer chip!
