The Pho-Tak Corp. of Chicago Illinois made a number of consumer cameras,
including this low end folder during the 1950s. Some camera models use an
oddball 86mm Octvar focal length in a synchronized shutter according to
one source. Other models may have sported a 105mm Octvar lens. The shutter
is 1/50th second and T(ime). The format on at least one model was 6x9cm.
Accessories include a synchro-flash attachment for flashbulb use. It may
be possible to use both 120 and 620 film in some models too, per some
seller claims. Otherwise, you will need to look into respooling 120 film onto 620 spools or select some of the handful
of films still available in 620 today.
Sadly, these cameras were not high end models, and so they are not
collectible or high priced. Most clean examples bring only $10-25 US.
Still, they look neat, and may be a fun way to have a low cost 6x9cm
camera so long as you can accept the modest limits of these low cost
optics. Enjoy!
