Not all view cameras take standard 4x5" or rollfilm adapters, so you have to
be careful when looking for a user camera (as opposed to a display camera).
This compact graflex came in both 3 1/4" x 5 1/2" (from 1915-1924) and
5x7" (1916-1925) sizes. The stationary graflex back, carrying handle, top door
(hinged at front), lens bellows extension, and front bed support can all be seen
in the photo above. As noted in photo notes below, a 180mm (18.cm) Tessar lens
was used on this particular camera, but such lenses were often changed or swapped
out depending on user's needs. These cameras can often be had on EBAY for prices
around $200-250+ to $200-300+ (5x7").
Still, I would not recommend these cameras for
users, both because better user rollfilm and standard 4x5" backs are available
for less money (along with more modern lenses usually). Leave these golden oldies to
the folks who want to clean them up and display them to impress their digital camera
carrying friends!
