This Exakta model B early medium format SLR is of great historical interest as a lineal progenitor of the modern MF SLR. See History of Medium Format SLR for more details.


Photo notes:

Exakta B, a single-lens reflex camera made by Ihagee (Germany) in 1935. This is the more sophisticated successor model to the Exakta A of 1933 (the first compact single-lens reflex ever made). Eight exposures of size 4x6.5 cm on 127 rollfilm. Two-stroke lever film advance and shutter cocking. Reflex finder with waist-level viewing hood. Built-in magnifier. Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 1:2.8 7.5cm lens in telescoping mount (lens can be retracted beyond the infinity setting to make the camera more compact). Cloth focal plane shutter with Z, B, 1/25 - 1/1000 sec settings. Separate timer (on right hand side of camera) to set the longer exposure times. This timer can also be used as a self timer...
