The Ansco Vest Pocket No. 2 folder camera uses 120 rollfilm to make 8 6x9
cm images on a roll of 120 film. Produced by Ansco from 1915-23, then
renamed No. 1 Expert Ansco through the end of production in 1924. The
lens is an Ansco Anastigmat f/6.3 or a Modico Anastigmat f/7.5, usually
in either a "Bionic" or Gammax shutter. Must admit, the idea of a
"Bionic" shutter in the 1920s is pretty curious. Even more unusual is the
hinged lens cap, easily seen in the photo above, which makes this camera
easy to identify. Surprisingly, you can often find this camera for under
$50 US.
We should point out that most of the "vest pocket" cameras by Ansco used
127 film - see 127 film resources
pages. However, some models (No. 1 and No. 2) used the larger 120
rollfilm. So be careful if you are looking for a user camera, as 127
rollfilm is becoming hard to find and more expensive to buy and process.
I tend to recommend the 120 rollfilm cameras over the other film formats
for users, since 120 rollfilm is more readily available than 127 or 620
and especially 116 or 118 and other Obsolete
FIlms.
